Jisc is delighted to announce the appointment of Liz Bal as director of open research services.
Acting for and with our members, Liz will provide strategic direction for Jisc’s services to ease the move to open research for UK researchers, institutions and funders.
Commenting on her appointment Liz says:
“Now, more than ever, it’s evident that open research is crucial for the advancement of science and society. This means openness throughout the research life cycle, making the process and outputs of research as open as possible, as early as possible.”
Liz comes to Jisc with ten years of experience in academic journal publishing. In her most recent role at publisher Springer Nature, she was responsible for the strategic development of a portfolio of life science journals. She started her career in the early days of BioMed Central (BMC), the first commercial open-access publisher, at a time when open access to published articles was not the norm.
Liz adds:
“Today, it’s clear we’ve come a long way since then, but open access is really just the beginning of the journey toward truly open research.”
